ACERCA DE LA ESCRITORA / About the Playwright: CARIDAD SVICH

Caridad Svich ha recibido el premio OBIE 2012 por su Trayectoria Teatral, el premio Edgerton Foundation New Play 2012 y el NNPN Rolling Globe Premiere por Guapa, igualmente el premio de la Asociación Americana de Críticos de Teatro 2011 por su obra The House of the Spirits, basada en la novela de Isabel Allende. Ella ha ganado el Premio Nacional de Dramatización Latina (patrocinado por la Compañía de Teatro Arizona) dos veces, incluyendo en el año 2013 por su obra Spark. Ha sido seleccionada para el Premio PEN en Drama cuatro veces, incluyendo en el año 2012 por su obra Magnificent Waste. En 2018-2019, su obra Cerise Bicycle recibirá el premio NNPN Rolling Globe Premiere en los teatros de los Estados Unidos.

Actualmente está bajo contrato con el American Conservatory Theatre, el Cleveland Opera Theater y la Universidad de Alabama-Birmingham, y es investigadora visitante en la Royal Central School of Speech communication and Drama de Londres por el período 2017-2018.

Caridad Svich received a 2012 OBIE Award for Lifetime Achievement in the theatre, a 2012 Edgerton Foundation New Play Honor and a NNPN Rolling World Premiere for Guapa, and the 2011 American Theatre Critics Association Primus Prize for her play The Firm of the Spirits, based on Isabel Allende's novel. She has won the National Latino Playwriting Accolade (sponsored by Arizona Theatre Company) twice, including in the year 2013 for her play Spark. She has been short-listed for the PEN Laurels in Drama 4 times, including in the yr 2012 for her play Magnificent Waste material. In 2018-2019, her play Blood-red BIKE will receive a NNPN Rolling World Premiere at theatres beyond the United states of america.

Her works in English and Spanish have been seen at venues across the U.s.a. and abroad, amid them Arena Phase's Kogod Cradle Serial, San Diego Repertory Theatre, Gala Hispanic Theatre, Denver Heart Theatre, 59E59, The Women's Project, Halcyon Theatre, Woodshed Collective @ McCarren Park Pool, Repertorio Español, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Lighthouse Poole UK, Teatro Mori (Republic of chile), Artheater-Cologne (Germany), Ilkhom Theater (Uzbekistan), Teatro Espressivo (Costa Rica), Welsh Fargo Stage (Wales), Homotopia Festival UK, SummerWorks festival in Toronto, CEAD Festival in Montreal, and Edinburgh Fringe Festival/UK. She is currently under commission from American Conservatory Theatre, Cleveland Opera Theater, and the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and she is a 2017-2018 visiting research fellow at the Majestic Central Schoolhouse of Speech and Drama in London.

Julia Rosa Sosa nació y se crió en la frontera de los Estados Unidos con México. Ella es una joven directora de teatro que se ha enfocado durante y después de graduarse de la Universidad de Texas en El Paso en trabajar en historias que vibran en la comunidad haciéndolas reír, llorar o simplemente haciéndolas recordar el hogar (cosa que hace a diario). Algunos de los puestos en los que ha trabajado son: Oregon Shakespeare Festival, como Asistente de Direccion, Mojada: Una Medea en Los Ángeles, de Luis Alfaro; Sazón de Mujer de Victor Hugo Rascón Banda (UTEP); Un Hogar Sólido de Elena Garro (Latin @ y Chican @ Theatre Series); y The Cuban Swimmer por Milcha Sanchez-Scott (UTEP).

Julia Rosa Sosa was built-in and raised on the U.s.-MX border. She is a young theatre director that has focused her fourth dimension during and later on graduating from The Academy of Texas at El Paso to work on stories that resonate with the community past making them express joy, cry, or just remind them about dwelling (which she does daily). Some titles she has worked on are: Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Banana Director,Mojada:Una Medea in Los Angeles by Luis Alfaro; Sazón de Mujer by Victor Hugo Rascón Banda (UTEP);A Solid Homeby Elena Garro (Latin@ and Chican@ Theatre Serial); and The Cuban Swimmer past Milcha Sanchez-Scott (UTEP).

En united nations esfuerzo por ampliar nuestra comprensión sobre nuestro mundo, nuestras comunidades y we mismos, el programa NEA Big Read reúne a organizaciones asociadas en todo el país para alentar a comunidades enteras a leer el mismo libro. En Massillon, OH en 2016, el libro fue In the Fourth dimension of the Butterflies de Julia Alvarez.

In an effort to broaden our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves, the NEA Big Read programme brings together partner organizations across the state to encourage entire communities to read the same book. In Massillon, OH in 2016, that book was Julia Alvarez's In the Fourth dimension of the Butterflies.

As part of the event, community leader, artist, organizer, and longtime CPT friend Héctor Castellanos Lara created alfombras de aserrín, or "sawdust carpets," with immigrants and refugees from Central America and Mexico and volunteers from Immigrant Worker Projection Centro San Jose. The pattern celebrated In the Time of the Butterflies and was based on drawings by Central American teenage refugees.

"En el Tiempo de las Mariposas / In the Time of the Collywobbles tiene mucha importancia porque nos recuerda que: algo podría ser legal, porque el gobierno lo dice así, pero eso no significa que ocean correcto. Esta es una historia sobre hermanas que murieron porque trataron de luchar contra una dictadura. Por la libertad. Por los derechos humanos. Luchaban por vivir una vida feliz. Y creo que muchos de nosotros podemos sentirnos cómodos con la idea de que existe odio afuera, porque a veces no lo experimentamos de cerca. Pero cuando encendemos el televisor y escuchamos odio, odio, odio, eso resuena dentro de we. Ese odio está creando consecuencias – consecuencias que continuarán en el futuro. Pienso que una de las mejores cosas de esta asombrosa historia es que nos recuerda de que el hecho de que algo sea legal no significa que sea correcto".

This is a story well-nigh sisters who died because they tried to fight a dictatorship. For liberty. For human rights. They were fighting to live a happy life. And I think a lot of u.s.a. can become comfy with the thought that detest is outside, considering sometimes we don't experience it closely. But when nosotros turn on our TVs and hear hate, hate, detest – that resonates inside the states. That hate is creating consequences – consequences that volition go along through into the future. And I call up one of the greatest things about this amazing story is the reminder that just because it's legal doesn't hateful it's right."

En el año 2013 Cleveland Public Theatre, lanza la agrupación Teatro Público de Cleveland, compañía de teatro latino. El elenco se reunió luego de una serie de talleres de teatro gratuitos, abiertos a la comunidad, que se ofrecieron juntamente con Centro Cultural de Arte de Cleveland Julia de Burgos. El propósito del elenco es transmitir la riqueza de la diversidad cultural de la ciudad, y dar a conocer el punto de vista de los latinos de Cleveland, a través de lo cual se pone en práctica la misión primordial de CPT: elevar la conciencia y fomentar la compasión en nuestra comunidad a través de la actuación que rompe esquemas tradicionales y los programas transformativos de educación artística.

La fundación del Teatro Público de Cleveland fue apoyada por el programa Engaging the Time to come de la Cleveland Foundation. La Cleveland Foundation también apoyó a CPT a establecer united nations fondo de capital de innovación, que brinda un cimiento importante para el Teatro Público y otros esfuerzos para continuar envolviendo la rica diversidad de Cleveland en el teatro.

In 2013 Cleveland Public Theatre launched Teatro Público de Cleveland, a local Latino theatre company. The founding of Teatro Público de Cleveland was supported by the Cleveland Foundation's Engaging the Hereafter Programme. The Cleveland Foundation as well helped CPT found an innovation capital fund, which is providing significant support for Teatro Público and other efforts to engage the rich diversity of Cleveland through theatre.
