I've fabricated this numerous times and never inverse 1 matter . The recipe is perfect as are all of Chef John'south recipes. If you're finding it more similar soup, then you haven't permit the water evaporate. You lot need to take your fourth dimension and let it simmer for awhile. You volition non be disappointed with the results. It's delicious!!!

I only made one switch out--ane red bong pepper instead of green bong pepper considering my family unit prefers the ruddy over green. I topped each "joe" with a slice of precipitous cheddar cheese. My husband and kids liked these sloppy joes, mostly because they were not sloppy. My husband said that was the best part because he could accept the leftovers in his truck the next day and not worry about getting his luncheon everywhere.
07/17/2012
I actually fabricated this recipe equally is, except replacing the meat for meat analog and then that the vegetarians in my household could also savour. I retrieve with the liquid slowly reducing also help hydrate the meat analog which fabricated the sloppy joes taste like the real meat version. As hubby said, who has been a vegetarian longer than I have been live stated, it was better than his mom's sloppy joes that he ate when he was a kid. Two wonderful and definite thumbs upward!!

One time once more, Chef John, "Thank you" seems and so inadequate. Made this for dinner last night and at that place was happy silence from my husband'southward corner as he finished his portion and so not-and so-silent (but relatively subdued lest he resemble Bambi in the headlights earlier running away) ecstatic churr from mine, when he got up for seconds. Normally, when I brand sloppy joes, there is the animated discussion about how ketchup should be used only as a condiment on the side to adorn hot dogs, hamburgers, the occasional french fry, but information technology should never -- and he repeats never -- be used as an ingredient. There was none of that with this repast :) -- not even the suspicious, "Did you put ketchup in this?" or the disappointed, "Honey, you Know I'm not a big sweetness-and-sour fan". A note to those reviewers who thought this was too "sloppy", I would say make this over again and be more patient adjacent time -- the liquid does evaporate eventually. The flavor is superb that it is well worth the wait. So .. Thanks once again! I take myself a new sloppy joe recipe!

What can I say? It's however another Chef John Hitting! Nosotros LOVED It! My son had 2of them last dark! If we hadn't already had French fries with our luncheon, we would take had tater tots with it! Nosotros settled for some coleslaw to accompany it instead DELICIOUS! AND...worth the time it takes to make it. Exist patient because I know the astonishing smell information technology creates; simply exercise it. You lot won't be sorry ;-) Made this over again today for my husband. He LOVES information technology! SCORE! fabricated information technology as written, let it simmer for over an hour and it was Amazing!!!! I beloved Chef John and his creations!

I followed this recipe, but added some scarlet bong pepper with the light-green bong pepper. It smelled delicious while cooking, but later on 45 minutes on the stove, it was still soupy. I had to plow up the heat and add some cornstarch to thicken it upward. I then added the meat to rolled out biscuits, folded them over, sealed them upward and baked in the oven for xv minutes...Yum!
05/01/2012
this was first-class ... the only thing I will change is I volition only add 1 Tblsp of brown sugar ...
04/24/2012
Followed the recipe to a T and it turned out more similar a soup than sloppy joe....I needed to add four tablespoons of flour to thicken upwardly the sauce enough to eat on a bun. Overall the taste was proficient.

Boy does this recipe bring back memories! I haven't had sloppy joes since I was a kid. Definitely a "retro" kinda meal that dare I say...tastes better than my Mom's! This was then piece of cake and and so good - perfect for Sunday football. I doubled the recipe using 96/iv ground beef, 1 cherry-red pepper and 1 dark-green pepper, one-half ketchup and half Bennetts Original Chili Sauce along with a generous splash of white wine vinegar, and dark-brown saccharide to sense of taste along with the residue of the ingredients. I highly recommend watching Chef John's video. It's only a few minutes long and was very helpful. You really practice demand to add together the water and let it simmer down for at least 30 minutes - and don't exist agape to add the cayenne information technology really does make a difference simply doesn't make it "hot". All I did was keep information technology warm in a crock pot during the game. I served these on slider rolls with chips and pickles to rave reveiws. Thanks Chef John for some other crawly recipe!
03/02/2015
Very very good.....nice residual of sweet and estrus. Loved the bell pepper in it.......I fabricated it exactly by the recipe . Went well with (shop bought) macaroni salad. Hey I cant practice it all !!
05/01/2012
This is a neat base recipe for a standard sloppy joe. I used onion pulverization, sweet red pepper, and a practiced pinch of cayenne pulverisation, doubled the worcestershire, and cut back some on the water. Instead of salt I used a bit of chicken bouillion granules. This took a fiddling over an hour to simmer downward to nearly dry out. This was just standard sloppy joe, not tangy enough for me though and I like it kicked up a scrap. Simply overall this was even so pretty darned skillful, Thanks Chef John.
01/10/2015
I am ashamed to say that I take been using a can mix for my sloppy joes for many years. I did not have a can yesterday, but had a sense of taste for a sloppy joe, and so I googled a recipe. I found this one and was then pleased that I had all of the ingredients. I followed the recipe to a T, and it was sensational!! Way better than the tin can and my hubby concurs! No more cans for usa! Thank you, Chef John!
05/30/2012
I think that this is a keen and easy meal. It was like shooting fish in a barrel to brand and came out great. I followed as written. I only added a i/2 cup of water the second fourth dimension and this helps with information technology being to watery. Also if its notwithstanding watery turn the oestrus up to med. and so the h2o simmers out quicker (if you lot do this you have to stir every few minutes to keep it from called-for).
02/xix/2013
Wow!! Made information technology every bit directed and it was fabulous!! No changes made.
07/24/2013
I was worried that this recipe didn't call for as much ketchup equally the sloppy joes I grew up with, but this is an fantabulous recipe. Followed directions to a tee, and they were great!
04/12/2013
I'k giving this 5 stars even though I tweaked here n there. I did recalculate to iv servings for 1 lb 91% grnd beef. I think that's fairly lean. Anyway, I salt n peppered the beef as information technology was being cooked/crumbled down. I also added a bit of Montreal Steak seasoning. I also had ane/iii C of chicken stock I needed to use upwards so in it went. I eyeballed the onion, grn pepper, worscester, etc. I did reduced the two/3 cup of water in each awarding to 1/2 C. I felt the ketchup made it sweet enough for myself so I added a drizzle of molasses to get that flavor profile. Oh, I was lazy then used garlic powder. I think allowing the liquid to melt down is the style to go. I've been trying different recipes here and they were all too 'heavy' with the sauce for my pref. This reminds me of a cross between loose meat and SJ, which I really like! Oh yep, I did add a minor amount of pecan liquid smoke every bit I like that little fleck of a smokey flavour. Practiced stuff - is my go-to 'unsloppy joe' recipe from at present on. Elementary and easy, cheers a bunch CJ.
05/03/2017
My husband and I were both happy with these sloppy joes as written. On the reviews I noticed some people had some problems with the water content. The recipe said to employ a big skillet. If y'all utilize a smaller skillet or a pot it would accept longer to evaporate. The more than surface expanse yous have to piece of work with the quicker information technology will reduce. But an FYI...
07/16/2012
Every bit sloppy joes become, this was pretty practiced. Information technology wasn't as saucy I as remember every bit a kid, simply I doubt Manwich would gustatory modality all that skilful today. I enjoyed information technology.
07/ten/2013
I did this with previously steamed lentils instead of meat. I used a whole onion and only perchance a half cup of water since I didn't want lentils to go mushy. As well used yellow mustard instead of dijon, bumped up the Westward to 5-6 good dashes.
05/14/2013
Delicious!! My son came abode from higher tonight and I made these to welcome him home. I wasn't certain how expert they could be with such a simple agglomeration of ingrediants only they were bang-up. I had them simmering and ready to go while I waited for him to arrive. I popped the buns into the oven to toast while the motorcar was unpacked and served it with a ceasar salad. Voila...he was as happy as a clam and wolfed them down with lots of yumms and comments about not eating caf nutrient. Hubby had 2! There is chocolate cake to consummate the night. I made as written just subbed red pepper for green (personal preference) and just one cup of h2o. This will be my go to recipe. I liked all the ingrediants. Thanks, Chef John. Added: I take made this with footing beef, turkey and chicken. Fabricated it with and without the peppers. Made it scaled with 1, 1 ane/two or 2 lbs of meat. It always comes out groovy! Serve with toasted buns, a salad or roasted veggies....succulent.
03/16/2013
Pefect recipe for Sloppy Joes! The cooking method is what makes this recipe outstanding. The long simmer, because of the addition of water (best to use filtered so you don't accept a tap water aftertaste), makes the meat tender and allows for all the flavors to come together well. No waiting overnight for this dish to meliorate. I do non similar green peppers and then I used a stem of celery diced small instead. I did add a smidgen more of ketchup, mustard, brown sugar and Worchestershire sauce - simply only a petty of all to gustation. I'll be using this recipe from now on. Some other winner Chef John! Thanks.
02/02/2013
These had to be the best sloppy joes we take ever had. Followed directions exactly except that I might have had a fleck more ground beef than called for and possibly I ran out of ketchup before reaching the required amount just it didn't matter anyway. Served over ciabatta hamburger buns, hubby and I inhaled these last night for dinner. A bit of grated sharp cheddar to tiptop it off. Added to my regular rotation. Thanks for posting.
02/23/2015
Delicious!
02/23/2015
Totally loved this recipe and this is the commencement time I had made a huge batch and tbere were admittedly NO leftovers. My family loved it too, I guess.
10/29/2012
Yummmm! I take made this recipe a few times (exactly as written) and my whole family loved information technology. It reminds me of an sometime fashioned recipe - if there is one for Sloppy Joes... Simmering the filling for 45 minutes makes it seem similar your making something more than fast nutrient. Don't forget the Tatter Tots - a Chef John recommendation :)
07/23/2012
I thought this was ok but I like a little more tomato flavor so I added a 6 oz can of tomato paste and a TBS of Country Bob'south steak sauce. Succulent.
eleven/07/2012
This is so skillful. I followed the recipe exactly and it made 10 sandwiches. My son said they were the all-time sloppy joes he e'er had. At kickoff it seems theres too much water in the recipe, only afterwards xl minutes of simmering, it all boiled downward and it was perfect consistancy. Definitely going to brand these again and I wouldnt change anything.
02/26/2015
This was and so good!! Side by side time I will add a piddling more cayenne...no more than canned Sloppy Joe mix for this family unit:) This is worlds better:)
07/25/2014
This turned out yummy, but information technology calls for Mode too much h2o. We simply used 1 cup and it took 45-50 mins for information technology to get close to sloppy joe consistency. We also added more ketchup and Worcestershire sauce towards the terminate because the water seemed to dilute the flavour.
06/02/2017
Made this recipe last night and must say there isn't much expert about it. Outset of all, I did not add together the 2d cup of water. Later on calculation the first it was already soupy and there wasn't need for some other cup of water for a recipe that was touted as thick. So afterwards humid downwards to appropriate consistency I took a taste and much to my dismay it tasted just similar a obviously hamburger with ketchup. And so, in an effort to save the meal I ended upwards adding the following: An extra TBS of Dijon mustard, 2 tsp extra blackness pepper, and 2 TBS of "Bill Echols Taco Seasoning" (recipe on this site). Sadly, I will exist highly skeptical of any future "CHEF JOHN" recipes. This is the 2nd fourth dimension I have been highly disappointed with what he has contributed although this is the starting time time I have posted so. Honestly, I don't think this recipe was tested this earlier it was contributed. The 2d cup of water still mystifies me. Await for another recipe or but brand a hamburger and use ketchup and you lot will save yourself a lot of fourth dimension and disappointment.
02/14/2015
I have made this. I mixed ketchup and bbq sauce.
01/24/2015
Flavor was okay nonetheless never got thick like promised. Very soupy.
03/05/2019
This was a total striking with my picky eater hubby and son!! I let it simmer over medium and the liquid was absorbed in 30 min using a big stainless steel pan. Such an easy weeknight meal and I always take the ingredients on mitt. My son requested it goes into our monthly meal rotation! Thanks Chef John!
06/eleven/2013
Very tasty. I used ground turkey instead of beefiness and only added 1/ii cup of water. I too added some additional seasonings such as italian, garlic powder and paprika. I would definitely make it again.
08/05/2019
Bully recipe! My married man loves sloppy joes but grew up eating the canned stuff which I think is horrible and too sweet. This recipe is perfect for both of us and the kiddo loves it as well. I've made information technology a couple of times and didn't change anything.
02/ten/2014
I have this simmering on the stove as I am typing this. I take made this several times and it comes out perfect every unmarried time. I use red pepper instead of the green and I reduce the concluding calculation of water to but ane/2 a cup merely other than these 2 minor changes, I follow the rest of recipe exactly. This is the only recipe I use since the commencement time I tried information technology. You volition non exist disappointed!!!
12/11/2012
This hit the spot!! Admittedly perfect consistency with just the correct amount of tang. I added a bit more than a dash of Worcestershire sauce but otherwise followed the recipe. No cayenne for us but the simmering for at to the lowest degree an 60 minutes is what makes this just so yummy. Cheers Chef John for another fantastic recipe. I've been making another sloppy joe recipe from here only if I'm not in a large hurry this will be my go-to recipe.
04/05/2018
This is excellent! I concur with many others that patience is a virtue. Allow it simmer the whole 45 minutes. Unfortunately I don't have gas so on a electrical stove meridian simmer is about 3 or 4. on the dial. v stars from the family unit
02/16/2017
Too sweet and runny
07/16/2019
Loved this! I permit it simmer for an 60 minutes until it was the consistency I wanted. Next time I will cutting down on the brownish sugar as it was a flake sweet for united states of america. This is perfect for making a large batch & freezing in meal size pouches to have on manus and wouldn't it exist great to use on a hot canis familiaris for a modify up from chili
06/26/2017
Bland. Needs something to kick information technology upwards. I' thousand not a practiced enough cook to know what information technology is. Would take done better with Hamburger Helper
01/17/2015
Worked perfectly. Family loved it. Practiced sweet flavor and dainty texture. Very easy to brand.
12/19/2014
I used beefiness stock and jalapenos, loose hot sausage and ground venison. Was a little sweetness. Hard to believe the recipe calls for 2 cups of plain water instead of beef stock.
02/01/2013
My friend that loves sloppy joes but hates the mess actually liked these. I liked them too, just next time will leave out the brown sugar. Everything else about them was swell (of form - it's Chef John!!)
12/31/2012
To u.s.a., the meat had a good flavor just in one case you put it on the buns information technology just wasn't strong enough. Made sort of a bland dinner.
03/16/2015
Best BBQ EVER!! I made enough for 4 but my hubby and I ate it all that nighttime! Thank you for sharing!
03/11/2015
It was delicious! I made one change, I used 93% lean turkey. With all the liquid added it cooked more than so 45 min, thank goodness I started earlier. Definitely volition employ this recipe once again.
03/15/2013
Quite a overnice variation on Sloppy joes! I always love Chef John's stuff and I learned a new matter (about how to become it then it'south crumbly). I followed it exactly, simply mine turned out soupy which was disappointing and I guess I didn't go out information technology long enough (even though information technology was there for most 35 min. pretty much unchanged). Ah well, the flavours were dainty, and subsequently I tuckered a bit of the juices it was quite yummy. I'll attempt it again sometime to run across if I can get the amend consistency. Lovely recipe though!
06/24/2018
This is an first-class Sloppy Joe recipe. My married man loves information technology. He says information technology is way better than the canned stuff. I concur. I followed the recipe pretty closely although I used cherry-red bong pepper & I added a fresh diced lycopersicon esculentum virtually the terminal 10 minutes. For the people who are finding information technology soupy, it needs to be cooked medium high or loftier depending on you stove top. Some get hotter than others. Plus, the water is added in two split up interval. I mix the outset loving cup with my ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, salt, pepper & cayenne (I do not intendance for Worcestershire). Then in one case that has cooked downward to nearly dry I add the second loving cup of water. Then cook that down to most dry. It takes about 35-xl. This is an excellent base recipe. Of course you lot tin always add together or subtract based on your ain preferences. This has now become my go to Sloppy Joe mix.
03/29/2015
It was very expert, fabricated as written.
11/07/2015
This is a corking recipe! Cheers Chef John! Guest said next time I need to make a double batch.
09/26/2013
It was merely okay. But I did utilise a red pepper and footing turkey. Mayhap that'south why. I'll try once more with beef and dark-green pepper.
02/fifteen/2018
This is a keeper! Crawly flavor! A huge hit with Family unit,
11/27/2015
Succulent! I ever observe Chef John's recipes to be meridian notch, so I was somewhat taken aback when making this Sloppy Joe recipe. It seemed so watery and frankly, kinda gross. WRONG! If you follow the recipe you will terminate upward with one of the best Sloppy Joe sandwiches y'all've ever eaten. Be patient, let the water simmer abroad until the meat is dry out, and jazz it upward a flake for your tastes (I added more oestrus for my family). Making them again this afternoon, along with Chef John'southward hamburger buns, and my family unit will exist thrilled. Cracking recipe!
01/13/2017
Consistency was fine, fresh peppers were dainty but overall the combination of ketchup and carbohydrate was way to sweetness (even afterwards reducing the sugar) Other than sweet very bland. Going dorsum to an envelope of low-sodium Sloppy Joe seasoning, Rotel tomatoes with chiles and a small can of tomato sauce.
02/21/2020
The all-time sloppy Joe recipe I accept made. I add a trivial bit of liquid fume and cutting back slightly on the green pepper.
06/19/2019
After seeing that canned Sloppy Joe mixes comprise Loftier Fructose Corn Syrup, I came online to observe a recipe I could brand from scratch. This recipe lived up to my expectations. I started with just half the corporeality of brown sugar and tasted it as it mixed in. I concluded upward adding some other i/2 tablespoon as my ketchup added a strong vinegar component and the brownish sugar helped even that out. Otherwise, I stuck to the recipe. My kids were ever on the debate about Sloppy Joes, merely this time they enjoyed them and fifty-fifty ate upwardly the leftovers. Note: Brand sure your ketchup doesn't contain HFCS if you lot are trying to avoid information technology like I am.
07/24/2015
I've fabricated it twice and it's succulent
02/08/2019
Another Chef John winner! Amazing how a simple dish like sloppy joes can brand such a fantastic repast. Definitely have the time to simmer long plenty to evaporate all the liquid. The flavor of the beef mixture was out of this world. Served on toasted buns with sliced greenish onions and dill pickles. Husband raved about this meal, only thing he complained about was eating besides much.
11/22/2015
too sweet for us. the babe lives it though!
07/19/2017
We love the taste and it is now my get to recipe for sloppy Joe'due south. You unremarkably e'er take the ingredients on hand. I only use ane cup of water and will probably cut dorsum some more. Even with one loving cup, it takes longer than 45 minutes to thicken upwardly.
02/01/2019
Nosotros don't consume beef and so I was looking frontward to making this with basis turkey. The only affair I didn't do was add the green pepper and cayenne pepper. It was delicious!
10/09/2014
Really good flavour. I didn't add the full two cups of water, and it simmered downwardly nicely.
07/20/2019
These are the best sloppy joe'southward we've always had. I went searching for recipes because I dislike the canned sauces. This is a habitation run. The family unit loved information technology. Nosotros added but a tad horseradish which helps cut the sweet a bit. Thanks Chef John!
06/xix/2017
Very proficient recipe. I added a bit of habanero sauce when it was simmering down to give it an extra boot. It may have been a bit too sweet without the heat.
02/05/2017
Whoa, Way also sweet! That was even with cut the carbohydrate in one-half. Of class ketchup has a lot of sugar on it'due south own. If I ever brand this recipe again will leave out the sugar altogether. I put about a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, helped to cut the sweet. I as well subbed night beer for h2o. Put in a few dashes of hot sauce. I usually honey Chef John'southward recipes, but this 1 non so much. The other favors are skilful, information technology's only for me and my family unit, the sweet overpowered all.
eleven/14/2015
Best sloppy joes ever.Perfect on a autumn evening. Merely add cole slaw or a vegetable salad & you lot will take a tasty nutritious meal!
10/05/2015
These were really adept - everyone in the family liked. Followed recipe exactly. A lot of stirring time involved, but worth information technology. Non as messy every bit sloppy joes commonly are.
10/thirteen/2017
Information technology was good! Smelled and so good while cooking besides. I had to omit the onion and garlic due to nutrition restrictions but it was still adept. I used 2 small xanthous peppers instead of green (I don't like green peppers). I allow it simmer for 45 minutes. It was a tad soupy but nevertheless good. I recall side by side fourth dimension I may attempt adding tomato paste or some canned chopped tomatoes in identify of the ketchup and some of the water. Update - Made it again tonight and replaced the ketchup with a vi oz. can of tomato paste. The result was much less soupy. I will use the paste from now on.
01/10/2018
Simple, easy, tasty. I followed the recipe and arrived fairly shut to Chef John's result. Lots of room to modify to adapt individual testes. I have some fire roasted diced tomatoes in the pantry that I plan to add to my next batch.
05/xxx/2017
This will be my new become-to recipe for Sloppy Joes. I made as written simply substituted Yellow pepper for green. Don't similar green peppers. I was skeptical with all the water in it but it boiled downward nicely. Yous have to exist patient and follow the directions. I used this on a french loaf cut in half lengthwise and topped with grated cheese. I baked it on a cookie sheet at 350 for 10 minutes. Very yummy.
03/26/2018
I made this for a group of youth and they gobbled it upwards. Next time I would merely cut the brown sugar in half because it'southward a little as well sugariness for my gustatory modality
11/24/2014
Enjoyed this, however with the second cup of h2o, information technology took at least an hour to simmer down. I think withal this is what makes the final effect so good. 2nd Fourth dimension: Used regular ground beef (not lean) then the fat had to be drained. Added only 1T of dark-brown sugar, seemed good due west/o as well sweet. Reduced water by 1/2 a cup.
05/31/2019
This is such a great recipe. I love how American it really tastes lol. I followed the exact ingredient but I added a tablespoon of tomato paste. I besides didn't dark-brown the beef, I but fabricated sure it wasn't pink. I wanted to make information technology thicker because I don't like the idea of soggy bread and then I left information technology to thicken for quite a flake. Information technology was a striking and we absolutely loved it. I used homemade buns with a side of broiled potato and carrot fries. Yum!!
eleven/25/2018
These are without a doubt the best sloppy joes ever! I have made them numerous times and it is e'er succulent. No changes needed! (I hate it when people review a recipe and say it was smashing but made a few changes and proceed to write another recipe)
03/08/2015
This recipe was smashing! I will exist making them again presently!
xi/17/2018
My family unit loves them!! Amazing recipe! Give thanks you Chef John!!
02/04/2019
I made for Superbowl Sunday. I don't know how the game is going to cease, but, Chef John, one time again you are the star. Delicious and easy to eat.
12/xv/2012
Served these for lunch today sprinkled with mozzarella cheese. I used ground chuck and all of the ingredients every bit listed. This is non a quick recipe as you lot must let the ingredients to simmer for at least 45 minutes to permit all of the water to be absorbed. Everyone loved information technology. It is a keeper Chef John!
02/08/2019
Fantastic. All-time sloppy joes ever!
06/xix/2017
I added an 8oz can of tomato plant sauce & simmered for another 30 minutes. Used carmine pepper because I don't like light-green pepper (& the color was nice!). Added some cumin and chili powder because that is the "chili flavor" that I demand. Great sloppy joes & even used it for chili topping for hot dogs. Plan on throwing my other hot dog sauce recipe away & using this! Yes, would definitely get in again!
07/22/2016
After reading the reviews I decided to add together only 3/iv loving cup of water in total and use only 1 tbls. sugar. Still too sweetness and had to melt for an hour to reduce the liquid. Too added quite a flake of cayenne to distract from the sweetness.
01/15/2019
This was a delicious recipe. Non soupy at all, as long equally y'all requite it the fourth dimension to reduce, and in one case it reduces that is where the flavors come out. Definitely not your traditional sloppy joe out of the can (I can't stand up that stuff!) This is soooo much better, and well worth the wait! Be patient people, it volition be worth it!
09/23/2018
My hubby said these were the finest sloppy joes he has always eaten (WOW!,
11/04/2015
Really really delicious!!! And so much healthier then the canned type!
01/28/2019
Quick, easy and I'grand making this amazing sloppy joe again this night. Right now. Thank you chef John
03/07/2018
This is another succulent recipe from Chef John. No need to change anything! It did take a little longer than 45 minutes for the water to boil off completely only I merely permit it go a while longer and it turned out perfect.
08/11/2015
I have fabricated this and so many times I have lost count. In fact this is the first Chef John recipe I ever fabricated. It is mutual place for dinner now. All I do differently is no cayenne. I Served on sesame seed buns with tots or onion rings of grade. If you haven't been to Chef Johns blog food wishes, do yourself a favor and check it out.
03/12/2015
I honey this recipe. It'due south perfect just the way information technology is. Cheers! It'due south what's for dinner this night.
01/19/2018
I didn't have a green pepper so I used a orange pepper instead. Overall it was good but I constitute it on the sugariness side. Next time I will use 1 tablespoon of chocolate-brown sugar instead of 2.
12/11/2015
This is delicious. Much better than annihilation in a can.
11/24/2014
Such an easy and satisfying meal. The video really helped with the step by-step demonstration.
02/01/2019
As usual with Chef John's recipes, this was wonderful. My whole family unit loves Sloppy Joes and I love any recipe that I can cook early on in the day and heat upward come up dinner fourth dimension.
06/27/2015
WOW, this Sloppy Joe recipe will exist my go to recipe from now on! I had a ton of potato rolls leftover from a picnic, then I decided to try this Sloppy Joe recipe…and it is perfect! My simply change to the recipe was to replace the green pepper with some paprika because a few of my family members exercise not like peppers. I took the other reviewers communication and did let it simmer until the liquid absorbed, which it did and it turned out great! Thanks Chef John!
03/02/2013

I tin can't believe that I am going to suggest irresolute one of Chef John's recipes, but as is I take to agree that at that place is too much water. Afterwards I let mine simmer for an hour, fabricated Chef John'due south cottage fries to go with this, there was nevertheless a lot of water. I did not desire to drain out the flavor or add together flour, and so I increased the mixture to a high heat and it boiled off in about eight minutes. When I tried the mix information technology was too sweet for my family'south sense of taste, then I added Frank's hot sauce for a kick and another big clasp of xanthous mustard to gainsay the sweet taste. My husband loved the result although we discussed using merely half of the brownish sugar next fourth dimension. My toddler refused to touch on information technology, but oh well, my husband enjoyed his as well, and my son was enjoying eating the chips.

I do this a LOT! Great for company; do double batches for the freezer; splendid for potlucks and family unit gatherings. Accidentally doubled the ketchup twice final time I did a double batch. Guess what! MUCH more flavorful results. Volition continue with that practice. Utilise all kinds of burger; whatever is on sale; mainly turkey and beef; chicken non real satisfactory for texture.

I've fabricated this several times. Sometimes with beef, or I'll utilize ground turkey, and once I did a combination of both meats to still have the beef flavor but not all the fat. It has turned out groovy every time! The well-nigh recent time I made information technology I was in a hurry so didn't add the second cup of water at the end. I still let the liquid evaporate and information technology took much less time and was even so great!
